We offer FREE OF CHARGE grave searches for anyone looking for relatives or ancestors buried in Manchester General Cemetery.  Most people contact us after checking for the person they are looking for on the Manchester City Council Online Burials Website.  However, sometimes this information isn't complete.  There are mis-transcriptions and  it should be noted that Church of England burials prior to 1886 aren't included on the website as the Burial Registers haven't survived.

The above memorial card (which appears here with the kind permission of LizH) for the Corkhill children who died and were interred at Manchester General Cemetery in January and February 1870 is the only evidence of their burial which has survived.  Unfortunately the team haven't found a gravestone so far and their names don't appear in the burial registers as the Church of England burial records prior to 1886 have been lost.

In many cases we are able to provide a photograph of the gravestone.  If there wasn't a gravestone originally or it hasn't survived we can provide a photograph of the plot and the general area in which the grave is situated together with a map showing the location.  This is particularly helpful as many people who have contacted us wish to subsequently visit their relatives or ancestor's grave in person.

Please                           to be directed to our contact us page to request a lookup
